BASTARD
Cho Seung-Hui, a student from South Korea identified as the gunman who killed 32 people at Virginia Tech University, is seen in this police handout released April 17, 2007.
Reuters digg this
I can't really process my anger over this senseless slaughter, so I'll just do what I always do: Gripe about the stupid crap people say, and make probably-too-soon attempts at humor.
  1. So this miserable creep was an English major, and he wrote something for a creative writing class that was so disturbing, the prof referred him to the university's counsellors. Was it about killing a bunch of people on the Virginia Tech campus? I'm getting the feeling it was. If so, are we going to start banning creative writing programs? UPDATE: The Smoking Gun has a copy of it. "Entitled 'Richard McBeef,' Cho's bizarre play features a 13-year-old boy who accuses his stepfather of pedophilia and murdering his father."
  2. According to MSNBC: "South Korea's Foreign Ministry expressed its condolences, saying that there was no known motive for the shootings and that South Korea hoped the tragedy would not 'stir up racial prejudice or confrontation.'" You know what? How about just expressing your condolences? If a white American guy shot a bunch of people in South Korea, would we tell the grieving families that we hoped it wouldn't stir up racial prejudice?
  3. The gun nuts and gun-control nuts are squaring off, of course. I have no idea what the answer is, if there even is one, but it would be nice if we could all hold off on that crap for ONE FREAKING DAY. Personally, I have a visceral dislike of guns, but if I was about to be murdered by one, I'd want to be able to defend myself.
  4. I don't see how the university was supposed to handle this any better. There's really no Lunatic Mass Murderer Drill. They're not to blame, this demented freak is.
  5. My contribution to the self-defense debate.
  6. I apologize to Warren Ellis for calling him stupid. He's not stupid.
P.S. If you need a laugh, and I sure do, read the comments to Gutfeld's latest at HuffPo. Right off the bat: "Interesting that a comment that asks we grieve those victims of mass violence yesterday alongside those who died in 9/11 would garner this response from Mr. Gutfeld. It would also be good for Americans to note how many more among us die annually from lack of health insurance than went down in the 9/11 attacks." GOLD.

P.P.S. Breaking news from Planet Olby.

P.P.P.S. Has anybody used this to make another call for a video-game ban? Well, it's only day 2.
